Controlling CSS with JavaScript (218566)

JavaScript has full access to the markup of a web page (DOM) and the styles of a page (CSSOM). Using JavaScript to interact with and manipulate the DOM is common practice, but using JavaScript to interact with CSS is rarely explored past the shallow layers of manipulating classes and injecting inline styles. In this course, Morten Rand-Hendriksen takes a deep dive into the intersection of JavaScript and CSS to see what is possible. He explores basic manipulation of the CSSOM to change the live styles of a site, looks at the new opportunities afforded by custom properties, and explores concepts like style tokens. As Morten shows, using JavaScript to control CSS opens the door to more interactive designs and user experiences, and allows designers and developers to do things not possible with CSS alone.

Mike and Bill start with the basics of just what cryptography is and the key role it plays in protecting digital data. They then cover important topics like how websites use certificates to make sure usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, and other personal data stay secure; ciphers, binary, hashing, symmetric and asymmetric cryptosystems, digital signatures and certificates, and public key infrastructure; and how hashing helps you to be certain the data you receive or download is legitimate. Whether you're just curious about cryptography, or you want to prepare for the CompTIA Security+ exam (or any other cyber security course), this course will give you a better understanding of this intriguing subject.

Carolyn Wright is a photographer and attorney who specializes in photographer's rights. She also publishes the popular Photo Attorney blog, where she writes about these issues. In this course, she sits down with Ben Long to discuss what copyright means to photographers and the correct steps to registering and defending their copyrights in the Internet age.
